The
speaker, known as Play:1, features a custom-designed mid-woofer and tweeter
that deliver a deep, rich sound, according to Sonos. It also projects a wide
field of sound, meaning that the experience is consistent wherever you are in
the room.
New
smart processing technology minimises distortion even at full volume and, since
the Sonos wireless network is devoted to streaming music in HiFi sound, there
are no signal dropouts.
Play:1
brings together online streaming services with the user's personal music
library, allowing them to access popular music services such as Spotify, Rdio,
Napster, Last.fm and Hype Machine, as well as those stored on their computers
and smartphones.
They
can also tune in to more than 100,000 free Internet radio stations, podcasts,
and shows from around the world.
The
Play:1 will be available in the UK from 29 October from select partners and on
Sonos.com, at a cost of £169. For a limited time this Christmas shopping
season, purchases come with a free Sonos Bridge, valued at £39.
Users
can control the speaker either by pressing a button on top of the cabinet, or
using an Sonos Controller app downloaded onto their Pad iPhone, Android, Mac or
PC.
Multiple
Play:1 speakers can be used together, or they can be combined with other Sonos
wireless speakers or components around the home to create a multi-room HiFi
system.
Two
PLAY:1s can also be used as rear speakers with Sonos Playbar and a Sonos Sub to
create 5.1 home theatre sound for your TV.
